Advantage Logan wins final day’s feature

Irfan Ghatala trained Advantage Logan who was amazingly consistent this season, won the Racing Patrons Trophy, a race for horses rated 80 and above, the feature event of concluding day’s Bangalore Winter Racing Season held on Saturday. Irfan Ghatala recorded a treble and his regular jockey Suraj Narredu did one better to win four races. Both these professionals won the championship title in their respective categories.

When the last post was being sounded to signal the end of the season, a feeling of sadness crept in as BTC is under threat of extinction following the disastrous move to approach the court against the government which has resulted in the deadline of September 22 having been fixed for the exit of BTC from its present location. BTC may bargain for some extension of time in the Supreme Court but the writing is clear on the wall. BTC is bankrupt in all aspects and only a miracle can ensure continuation of racing in Bangalore. The government may not be charitable to the club for defying its dictate. The only possibility that could save racing in Bangalore is if the government decides to hand over racing to a private entity sans the club. This is only a wishful thinking.

Be that as it may, the concluding day’s action went on predictable lines. Advantage Logan was backed spiritedly with Lowndes Square also having his share of supporters. Blink did all the front running and led till the final 300 metres at which point Advantage Logan came through the middle to sail past the front runner and Lowndes Square who was disputing for supremacy in front. Advantage Logan quickened nicely in the closing stages of the race to spare three lengths at the finish to Lowndes Square while Blink held off Noble Guest for the third slot.

Criminal Lawyer had been pretty unlucky and on the last occasion, he lost a possible winning opportunity as his jockey Suraj Narredu had a fall. This time out, though sporting bandages, Criminal Lawyer showed out in the paddock parade and managed to stave off Savvy Concept to record a long overdue win. Camelot who was bidding for a hat-trick led briefly at the top of the straight but was easily tackled by Savvy Concept who swept into the lead. Jockey Suraj Narredu managed to extract that bit extra from Criminal Lawyer and the progeny of Gasawar got the measure of the well supported Savvy Concept in the shadow of the post. Lush Lashes, as is her wont, ran on powerfully from behind to finish third.

The well bred daughter of Burden of Proof, Eagle Claws recorded a smashing debut win in the Champion Trainers Trophy (Div I). Full sister to classic winning Sans Pareil, Eagle Claws left the field stranded at the top of the straight to win in the manner of a good quality three-year old. The lower division of the race was won by Spark of Napoleon who led all the way and won form the late rallying Super Gold. Eagle Claws clocked a faster time of one minutes 13.78 seconds while the winner of the lower division was slower by more than two seconds.

M P Mahaesh trained True Impression recorded a comfortable win in the 1400 metres Leading Bookmaker Trophy, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Suraj Narredu brought True Impression into contention from the outside draw with a steady run to take charge on turning for home. The progeny of Ajaad quickened nicely to establish a useful lead before jockey Shoaib woke form his slumber on Firm Amber. Snow Peaks was third. Joriki ran below par.

Suraj Narredu’s fourth winner of the day came from Dolce Vino who had to be driven out strongly to contain the challenge of Sky Drive in the Champion Jockey Trophy. Sky Dive shaped like a winner in the final furlong but lost by the proverbial whisker. In a cluster finish for the third slot, Marianella held of Bolzano and Mr. Ambassador whose jockeys had frozen hands and allowed their horses to grace the rear.

Trafalgar seized the initiative in the final furlong of the Leading Tipster Trophy and reached the safety of the winning post ahead of fast finishing Enchanting Beauty.

Hidalgo brought the curtain down on the season with a customary season ending win in the Leading Owner Trophy. In a pulsating finish, the Sharath Kumar trainee flew home to just about nose out the front running Buck Passer Junior in the closing stride of the race.

  1. Beloved sharankumar
you are keen in writing about the sadness of the land where the racing activity which likely to bade good bye.
but the club activities tells us that they are not bothered about it.
since on a day delhi off course day,
the club chose to close the first enclosure and the income too
they were very serious in electing their kith and kin in to the fold of BTC.
there is also no news about approaching the highest court too
it is sad for you and other race players including yours truly but

not to the hon members or their elected reps
    what to say further
    except miracles happens.
