Noverre’s produce continue to make a splash

The promoters of Sohna Stud Farm had further cause for celebration as their resident stallion Noverre continued to produce classic/graded race winners abroad. Noverre has already attracted big attention in India and his first crop of over 50 yearlings has already been sold out in India. Noverre is currently standing as stallion at the high profile Sohna Stud Farm which has been enjoying a glorious run in Indian racing, having produced Jacqueline, winner of four Indian classic winners in a row, Becket, winner of Bangalore Derby and Indian Turf Invitation Cup and multi-classic winner Sprint Star in the same year. The Sohna Stud Farm is owned by Sultan Singh and Gautham Thapar. The performance of Noverre in Europe has already caused his original owners to regret selling him. Noverre is the highest performed stallion to stand in a stud farm in India. Noverre’s first crop is bound to be followed with great expectations not only in India but also in Europe.

Adding to the list of big winners of Noverre like Le Havre, Music Show and Summit Charge was German Oaks winner Enora (Torsten Mundry/Terry Hellier) who closed with a rush to get the better of Godolphin’s Hibaayeb on Sunday.

Inexperience was no barrier to Classic success for the 15-1 shot, a German-bred daughter of Noverre having only her fourth race.
She flew home late to beat Elle Shadow, with long-time leader Semina taking third.
The 6-4 favourite Hibaayeb, drawn on the outside of 16-runner field, raced wide throughout under Frankie Dettori but faded from a promising position in the final stages to finish seventh.

Semina made a game attempt to make all, and found enough when shaken up turning for home to leave her looking a tough looking target over a furlong out.
However it worked out that those coming from off the pace had the advantage, and Elle Shadow took over the running from the tired leader 100 yards from the finish.
She looked well set to give to score, only to be run out of it by the fast-finishing Enora as the post loomed.

Hibaayeb had found enough to move into a share of second approaching the final furlong, but that was as good as it got for the Saeed bin Suroor-trained runner.
Enora gave her trainer, ex-jockey Torsten Mundry a big-race success in only his second season with a training licence.

He had three runners in the 16-strong field, and admitted after the race he was unsure of the pecking order amongst his trio.

Mundry said: "I won several races on Enora's half-brother, but of my runners I ranked her as the least favourite because of her lack of experience in such a tough race.

Music Show runs second to Goldikova

Music Show who had beaten the best three-year old fillies of Europe including English and French 1000 Guineas winners by winning the Gr 1 Falmouth Stakes, ran second to the great Goldikova on Sunday.

The Freddie Head-trained Goldikova (Anabaa) smoothly collected her tenth victory at the highest level when winning Deauville’s Gr.1 Prix Rothschild by three lengths.

Held up behind her pacesetting stable companion Only Green (Green Desert) and the recent Gr.1 Falmouth Stakes heroine Music Show (Noverre), the Wertheimer Brothers’ homebred moved into the lead two furlongs from home and quickly sprinted clear, winning with her ears pricked. Music Show kept on well for second, with Elusive Wave (Elusive City) running her best race of the season in third.

The victory means Goldikova joins the former Headridden Miesque (Nureyev) as the only horse to have won 10 European Gr.1 races since the inception of the Pattern in 1970. Like Miesque, she has claimed two Breeders’ Cup Miles and will look to add an unprecedented third at Churchill Downs in November.

Pierre-Yves Bureau, the Wertheimer Brothers’ racing manager, said: “Goldikova is a wonderful mare. She’s incredible and today she did not have too hard a race. There is the Prix Jacques le Marois in two weeks’ time and hopefully she will go for that.

“This year we are very proud she won at Royal Ascot [Gr.1 Queen Anne Stakes] and what is great is that everything is going to plan so far with what was scheduled for her during the winter. There is a lot of credit to give to Freddie for keeping this fantastic filly at this level for so long.”
