Apprentice jockey Rajesh in limelight

Apprentice jockey Rajesh was in limelight with a lucrative treble on the penultimate day of Bangalore Winter Races on Friday. Rajesh’s bag of wins included that on Camorra in the feature event, the Sandur Trophy, Youre Chilubuli and Foswell. Rajesh has emerged as a jockey of immense potential and his three wins was in keeping with the rapid strides that he has made during the season.

Camorra had recorded a comfortable win in her last outing and on the evidence of that run she had the capability to record an encore. Satish Narredu trained Accurate who had already recorded a hat-trick was strongly supported along with Gazaki in what appeared a competitive race. Rajesh had Camorra dictate the pace from the start and had the progeny of Brave Act quicken for home in the final furlong. The lead that he established held him in good stead as Accurate and Crown Vision charged home with big efforts. Camorra spared half a length at the finish to Accurate who in turn was an identical distance ahead of Crown Vision. Crown Vision could have made a difference to the outcome of the race if the support that she had from the saddle was better. Love Conquers All who had his share of supporters raced at the wrong end of the field and was not spotted at the busy end.

The end of season always sees a surfeit of entries in the race meant for maiden three year olds as most trainers would be hoping to give a mandatory run during the season. The Mercara Plate, a race for maiden three year olds for six furlongs, was run in three divisions. Padmanabhan trained Chemin De Fer gathered strong support in the betting ring on the basis of the filly’s eye-catching run in her last outing. There was support for Rapadan Glory. Jockey Neeraj Rawal had Chemin De Fer tracking Rapadan Glory till entering the straight before she left the field stranded. She won by a widening margin of five lengths in a smart time of one minute 14.1 seconds. Hillstone ran on to finish second ahead of Final Countdown. Rapadan Glory faded out in the final furlong to finish a poor fourth. Chemin De Fer is a good type of a youngster and she should be a force to reckon with during the summer season.

Hillingdon was the betting rage in the Division II of the race on the basis of the colt’s impressive workouts but the progeny of Royal Kingdom ran disappointingly and was outpaced easily by Forest Regent. Gallagher had Forest Regent dictate the pace from the start and skipped away as the expected show of acceleration did not come from the favourite who finished a dismal second.

Trainer Samar Singh had his second winner of the season through the well backed Royal Fortune who won the Division III of the race quite capably from Brownie.

Swift Star had been consistent enough to merit victory in the Vijaynagar Trophy (Div I). The Satish Narredu trainee had no problem in disposing of his rivals among whom Recharged showed some zest with a late rally. Arjun Mangalorkar’s Florida recorded an encore in the lower division of the race with a speedy start to finish effort, winning at the expense of Mystic Dawn who was the best of the beaten brigade.

Pradeep Annaiah’s Youre Chilubuli had recorded a runaway win in his last essay the previous week and once again he was backed to win the 1400 metres Bhatkal Plate. Youre Chilubuli duly obliged after staving off a spirited resistance put up by Mercutio in the hands of apprentice jockey Rajesh. There was inspired support for Puttanna trained Pritvi but midway through the race jockey Sreekanth was unseated as his horse stumbled or clipped one of the horses in front.

Foswell was backed spiritedly to win the 1100 metres Vibrant Plate and apprentice jockey Rajesh yet again rose to the occasion by bringing the fancied runner with a strong run with a furlong out and drove the horse out of the reach of Sky Glider who warmed up to the task after the cause had been lost.

Neil Darashah’s Native Talent had it easy in the 1800 metres Banavasi Plate. After being held up in the fourth position, Native Talent sailed past the front runners with a furlong out with minimum of fuss and won with plenty to spare from Lester.
Gallagher guided Halo of Reverence to a facile win in the 1600 metres Chamundi Plate with Burning Ambitions managing to edge out Segomo for the runner up berth. Fancied Lampon dropped out of contention abruptly after being prominent till approaching the final turn.
