Gypsy Magic has all the credentials

Gypsy Magic is no doubt attempting a difficult task of trying to win the Gr 1 Fillies Trial Stakes, the first classic of the summer Season on Sunday (June14) without the benefit of a race run. She also does not have the benefit of a mock race. Gypsy Magic was not originally expected to run in the race as evidenced by the fact that she was entered in a mile long race last week which went void. Though she is short of a run, she is definitely not short on preparation.

Gypsy Magic is a full sister to Derby winner Smart Chieftain, Classical Act and Southern Empire. Interestingly, not a single sister of these celebrated horses has won a classic as the fillies have proved to be temperamental and lacking in class. Though Gypsy Magic is temperamental, she has been systematically prepared to focus on racing and it wont’ come as a surprise if she wins the classic in style.

Captivating who was remained unbeaten on this track will prove a tough customer as she will love the cut in the ground. It rained considerably Saturday night and the going may give extra bit of sharpness to Captivating as she is by Burden of Proof whose progeny have excelled on soft ground.

Astral Flash beat Captivating at Mumbai by a whisker but she had the scales in her favour. Jacqueline, who ran third in the Poonawalla Million, is highly thought of and she is another who is expected to make things hot for Gypsy Magic. I also feel that Systematic will surely run a mighty race though she is still a maiden and two races old.

For those wishing to make safe bets, my preferred choices other than Gypsy Magic are: Celestial Way and Rugged Beauty.
