C P West expected to boost Galloping Acres
Galloping Acres which once enjoyed pride of place in Indian breeding through its stalwart stallions Everyday II and Road To Glory has been making earnest efforts to reestablish the farm. Twist And Turn ( Groom Dancer) shaped well by producing horses which made an immediate impact but his reign was short-lived as he covered just a few seasons before he died. The stud farm’s latest acquisition is C P West ((Came Home ex Queen’s Legend (Dynaformer) who comes from the highly successful Gone West family which has set standards in breeding all over the world. CP West arrived in India in time for the2010 covering operations and has already been active and his first crop is expected to be on ground early next year. Another stallion who is currently active at the stud farm is Danehill Star, the speedy son of Danehill having been procured form Australia. Danehill Star already has two crops on ground.
Brothers Donny and Dickie Singh, who run the stud farm, say that they picked C P West because of his good breeding value and outstanding looks. ``Though he had performed well on dirt tracks, we were sure that he would click as a stallion in India where racing is only on grass as he has the breeding which supports such a belief,’’ said Dickie Singh. ``In fact, leading veterinarian Dr Hasneyn Mriza opines that C P West is the best looking stallion in India,’’ he added.
C P West unfortunately was born in a vintage year. Otherwise he could well have won a classic. He raced alongside such giants as Curlin, Street Sense, Hard Spun, Rags To Riches and Divine Park. C P West was a creditable fourth behind World champion Curlin and Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense in the Preakness Stakes (Gr 1) over nine furlongs after leading them in one of the fastest run races in the history of that prestigious event. C P West was beaten by one and half lengths by the Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense in the Gr. 2 Jim Dandy Stakes at Saratoga, after having led all the way, the winner passing him close home.
C P West is the grandson of Gone West, one of the greatest sources of speed in the world. C P West is out of the Stakes placed winner of $247,581, Queen’s Legend, who raced only on turf.
Bred at the Caldara Stud in Kentucky, C P West was sold for $ 425,000 as a yearling at the Keeneland September Sales in 2005. He also received a bid of $ 7, 50,000 at the two-year old in training sale.
