Dancing Dynamite gets his due at last!

Dancing Dynamite[profile] finally got it all right as he raced to victory in the Gr 1 Maj P K Mehra Memorial Super Mile, one of the star events of the Invitation Cup day races held on Sunday. While the victory of Dancing Dynamite was cause for celebration for locally based owner V N Babu and his brother V Krishna Mohan, it also gave immense satisfaction to trainer Padmanabhan who won this coveted event for the first time. He had won the other three Grade I races which form part of the Invitation Cup weekend package and this race was one he coveted most as the race is run in memory of Maj P K Mehra who was his close friend and mentor.

Padmanabhan who had a runner in seven of the eight races held on the day, saddled four winners, with Palazzio`s Sun placing second in Sprinters Cup and Icebreaker finishing third in the Invitation Cup. He had reason to be excited at the success achieved by his three year olds. Becket won the Sohna Stud Million, over a mile, in the manner of a top horse who should make his mark in Indian classics while D`Artagnan won the Sprint Million in exceptional timing of one minute 12.28 seconds while Oasis Star who has proved to be a sprinting sensation, won her outing in one minute 12.26 seconds which was a new course record. The fact that D`Artagnan won in this fashion was indicative of the fact that he is physically maturing which should hold him in good stead for the big made son of Placerville. Juventus was strongly fancied ahead of Rhapsidion Snow to win the Super Mile event. There was some support for last year`s winner Diego Rivera. As the field traversed the first furlong, Priapus came on the wide outside to take charge of the proceedings from Rhapsidion snow. Coral Gables, Juventhus, Deigo Rivera raced behind with Dancing Dynamite held in check in the rear position. Rounding the final turn, Rhapsidion Snow surged into the lead with an alert Rajendra quickly improving Dancing Dynamite on the wide outside to bring the son of Glory of Dancer into strong contention. After a brief duel, Dancing Dynamite got the better of his tormentor on two occasions and then held off a spirited bid of Juventus who closed the leeway with a flourish only to miss out narrowly. Rhapsidion Snow was a well beaten third and this possibly may be the last run for the well performed six-year old daughter of Placerville who may head for paddock duties. Dancing Dynamite thus got some poetic justice after valiant second behind Autonomy in the Indian 2000 Guineas and several other such efforts. Incidentally, the latter went on to win the Invitation Cup and Dancing Dynamite had beaten the son of Razeen to the fourth place in the Indian Derby. The speedy son of Becket had missed action for a considerable period of time due to injury he suffered during the Bangalore Summer Season when he flipped over and fell when the band nearby started playing when he was being taken to the saddling enclosure. Now nursed back to fitness, Becket in only his second run showed the stuff he was made of as he cantered home for a facile win in record timing which however was subsequently improved by stalbemate Dancing Dynamite. Becket should mature after this run into a classic performer. Jockey Rajendra who had a double through Dancing Dynamite said that he was very easy on the horse and opined that Becket belonged to the highest class. D`Aragnan who was running after a longish break from the track, showed amazing speed as he moved swiftly from the outside draw to take charge and win as he pleased in the hands of jockey Appu. The others in the race were simply outclassed. Arts just about managed to displace Nox from the runner up berth. Jockey Appu had a double for the day as he guided the well bred Leave It To Me to victory over Royal Invader in the concluding race of the day. Despite travelling wide into the straight, Leave It To Me proved superior to the opposition as she covered good ground in the straight to get past Royal Invader inside the shadow of the winning post.
