Tsavorite keeps awarding at bay

Irfan Ghatala trained Tsavorite staved off the challenge of Awarding to win the P Dayanand Pai and P Satish Pai Bangalore Winter Million (Grade III), the main event of races held on Saturday. Tsavorite thus recoded her third straight win during the season. Jockey Chris Hayes rode a neat race on the winner.

Ballibay who had made a fine impressive in her debut was the firm favourite, with Tsavorite who was conceding weight to all the rivals, quoted at nourishing odds. Ballibay looked poor in the paddock and didn’t settle in the race as she bolted with jockey Suraj Narredu to the front, took a sweeping turn at the final bend and then went out of contention in a trice. Tsavorite came through the middle to assume command with a furlong out and she was strongly challenged by Awarding but the former managed to pull through. Con Artiste came form way behind to edge out Sunspirit for the third spot. The first three placed horses would surely appreciate step up in distance as they progress in their career.

Both the divisions of the Talakaveri Plate, a race meant for maiden three-year olds, saw horses sporting the colours of Wadhawan running as favourite but flopping. Sky Glider, who ran in the upper division, led all the way but found Juno hard to shake off as the latter managed to put his neck in front in the closing strides of the race. Sundance Kid found Dim Sum in no mood to give up as he chased the lesser fancied runner in vain. Dim Sum sped away for an effortless win.

Trainer Amith Cady recorded a double through Yamaguchi and Royal Player. Yamaguchi who was not seen in his true colours all this while, proved too good for the opposition in the 1400 metres Manipal Plate as he cruised into the lead from a forward position and then stretched away from favourite Seven Star to record a facile win. Royal Player was backed to the exclusion of his rest in the Classic Story Plate and the well backed favourite had no problem in disposing of the opposition in the hands of jockey David Allan who replaced Srinath in the saddle. Good Companion was a long way second.

Rashid Byramji trained Incredible who was coming back in distance from mile and half to eight furlongs was installed the firm favourite to win the1600 metres Bull Temple Trophy but found the switch difficult to handle straightaway. Duckworth shaped to cause a big upset but Lock And Load who was driven out by jockey Chris Hayes, managed to get the better of the front runner in the shadow of the post. Incredible had all the chances but failed to quicken and finished a tame third. Oban showed out briefly on the wide outside but failed to sustain her spirited bid.

Criminal Lawyer had the best credentials to win the Shravanabelagola Plate (Div I) but the progeny of Burden of Proof failed to catch up with the front running Regal Glory who held off the late bid of favourite. Game Dancer who led from the start weakened in the final furlong to end up third. The lower division of the race saw Srinath being unseated on Still Will at the start of the race resulting in the Stewards declaring the race void for purpose of betting and allowing the result to stay. For the record, Virtuoso won from Greenbro.

The well backed Showers of Luck won the 2200 metres Longchamp Plate with Guardian Knot putting up a stiff resistance in the closing stages of the race. Jockey Suraj Narredu ended the day with a double which was in keeping with the current trend.
