Badraan in India at Hazaara Stud

The dam of four-year old filly Eastern Aria (Halling) which won the Listed Plantation Stud Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday is in India at the up and coming stud farm in Haryana namely the Hazaara Stud Farm. Badraan (Danzig) has a yearling colt by Sharmadal in India. She also has a foal by Rebuttal (Mr. Greeley). This year, Badraan has been covered by the new resident stallion, Dancing Forever (Rahy). Eastern Aria has had 20 career starts and won eight of them and finishing second best on four occasions

Eastern Aria made all the running to record a gutsy victory in the Plantation Stud Stakes. Mark Johnston's four-year-old had gone winless this season after enjoying a glorious season last year that brought seven wins, including the Listed Prix Joubert at Saint Cloud. Ridden by Richard Hills, Eastern Aria led all the way and then held off the threat of Snoqualmie Girl and Lady Artemisia by a length and a neck.
Set up in the lush green fields on the banks of river Yamuna, the Hazaara Stud Farm has been getting prominent notice in the breeding circles in India. The promoter of Hazaara Nirmal Singh has made significant investment on the stud farm in the hope of making a big splash on Indian racing. Nirmal Singh has been a big buyer at Goff’s November sales and he brought in excess of 20 pregnant mares last year at the Goff’s sales. Badraan was also purchased at the Goff’s which has thus far been the favorite destination of Indian breeders who have been buying big in the last few years. The stud farm has a rich collection of mares, carefully selected from Goff’s.

With restriction on import of breeding stock from Europe having been lifted, the Tattersalls December Sales is bound to have a big Indian presence especially since the British Bloodstock Marketing has been pushing for Indians to come in a big way by hosting a reception for Indian breeders during the running of the Bangalore Derby recently and offering certain concessions to buyers.

Seven-year-old Dancing Forever (Rahy), winner of the Gr.1 Manhattan Handicap and third in the Gr.1 Breeders` Cup Turf behind Conduit and Eagle Mountain, has been bought by Hazaara Stud and is one of the most significant purchases by an Indian breeder this year.

Noverre, another Rahy stallion, is currently standing at Sohna Stud Farm, which is also located in Haryana. Noverre has raised great expectation as he already has sired Gr 1 Prix du Jockey Club winner Le Havre and Music Show who currently the best three year old filly in Europe. The first crop of yearlings from Noverre has been hot property and they have picked up by leading owners even as the Sohna Stud Farm opened its gates for buyers a few months ago.
